Course Creation

Talk with your department chair or school director about the departmental requirements for the course. Some courses will have a syllabus that all faculty who teach that course share. Other courses will be up to your discretion. There is an official syllabus for each course that can be found here.

Coursepack
Go to the website for the RU Bookstore Faculty Services. At this link, you will be able to create a coursepack on-line or order your textbook on-line. The staff at the Bookstore are helpful, so do not hesitate to contact them at 540 831-5144.

Disability Statement

Email- Students

Faculty Illness/Absence

Faculty illness or absences - Your department may have policies for times when you will not be able to attend class or be ill. Check with them first. You will need to make your policies clear to the students at the beginning of the semester. You may want to tell the students that you will notify them by a specific time. You can email your students by using a course email alias. This will go to all of the students registered for your course. To email your students, use the following:

Textbooks

Ordering textbooks

  1. First check with the secretary in your department to see how this is done, some departments order the books for you. They also use the same book for multiple sections of the same class.
  2. If you need to order the book, go to the RU Bookstore Faculty Services. Here you will be able to create a coursepack on-line or order your textbook on-line. The staff at the Bookstore are helpful, so do not hesitate to contact them at 540 831-5144.

    WARNING: Sometimes, books do not arrive on time or the bookstores have not ordered enough. You should ask the students if they are having any problems with obtaining the textbook. Call the Bookstore if there is a problem with this.
