Conflict Resolution

Students

  • Syllabus
The syllabus is a contract between you and the students. It should not be altered without agreement from both sides. RU posts Syllabi for all courses here.
The more complete your syllabus, the less confusion you may have about your expectations and assignments.
  • Honor System
This system is the foundation for the University community. The Honor Code is outlined in the Student Handbook. If you suspect someone of not following the Honor Code, you should discuss this with your department chair.
  • Inappropriate Behavior
If a student is acting inappropriately in your class, you should first talk with the student. You may email the student or ask to meet with the student after class. If this interaction does not help the situation, you should talk with your department chair. Students do not have the right to disrupt class. See the Student Handbook.
  • Student Grievance
If you have a conflict with a student and have not been able to resolve it, the student may talk with the department chair.

Colleagues
You may or may not be working closely with another faculty member. Hopefully this will be a win/win situation; however, if there is a conflict that can not be resolved, the department chair may be of assistance.
